AS YOU START:
1- DO NOT battle yet. Collect resources around you:
You collect resources by clicking the resource slot (farms, mines, etc.) outside your city and simply sending as many troops as you can to settle there. The more troops you send, the more they will "load". Once they are finish they will come back and add those resources to your bank.
2- Make troop training a priority:
From the very start TRAIN TROOPS. not just because they will defend you if you are attacked but because the more troops you have the more resources you can get from occupying resources outside your city. The best types of troops for carrying resource loads are Siege troops, followed by infantry. Siege type troops however are significantly slower than infantry. Do not ever stop training, unless you have a strategy in mind (See Advanced strategy entry).
3-RESEARCH
If you want to obtain power fast, what you want to do is research as fast as you can. Researching unlocks more powerful troops (which gives you more power points), and makes construction, researching, resource gathering and production among many other things considerably faster! Research will make you grow much faster if you make it a priority to learn how to best use the research tree.
3.1. Research Speed first:
Use both your research capacity and hero skills to improve construction speed and research speed before you move on to improving troop qualities. Troops should not need to be fighting at an early stage. They should be used mainly for gathering purposes (which means you also might want to use research and skill points to improve loading and gathering speed).
4- USE ALL of available space for construction:
But if there are buildings you are still not allowed to build (such as a prison or altar) do make sure you leave empty spots waiting, unless you want to take a more "growing" approach to the game, as opposed to "attacking". In the latter case build quickly but make sure you have a clear plan in mind.
5- SAVE your gold:
Soon you will wish you had not spent it. Maxing out your gold mine is a steady way to always have some gold back up. If you purchase gold make sure you do it when there's a good sale.
6- Do the Quests:
They are what will make your hero grow faster and therefore all the boosts that come with it. You also will earn materials for crafting weapons and accessories as well as funds to spend in the Alliance store. Never neglecting a quest is key to getting ahead in the game. There will be a point however when you will have a better understanding of your personal strategy and only then you can start to ignore the Quest Bar, or take it off your screen (in settings).
7- Save your Alliance loyalty and funds for critical material:

Many people seem to agree that Advanced Teleport is the most imperative item to have, followed by daily chances and Hero resurrection. If you want you hero to grow faster and to obtain materials easily you may use these funds to purchase "dailies" (daily chance).
7.1. Use your free Teleports right before upgrading your stronghold to level 6:
Once you have used you first stages to gather resources and research as fast as you can it's time to move to either a better location (safer, fuller of resources) or as close as you can to the rest of your alliance mates. You may also be in a Kingdom you don't want to be. Remember your free teleports before you are lvl 5 may take you to any kingdom. Once you are past this level of Stronghold you will be never be able to leave that kingdom, other than short periods of time of war.
8- Craft at the forge:
But make sure you take a careful look at the boosts you will gain and their percentage. Perhaps waiting a little longer until you get better materials or you hero is at the appropriate level will help you obtain better objects. Although this is up to what your priorities are, it is strongly suggested to craft items that will speed up construction and research, mainly accessories (i.e. glass vase, decanter for lower levels, eventually Chalice and Books of war when you are allowed to craft them), and weapons.
9- Upgrade Watchtower to At least level 11:
This way you will know whether your troops are ready to defend without Alliance help.
10. Follow suggested Empire Quests:
They are generally designed so that you are don't neglect critical parts of your city development while strengthening other parts. Some players find this to be the fastest and more reliable way to grow. As said before, you will know the right time to ignore.
11. Make peace with neighbors:
by sending them messages encouraging peace, or asking you alliance leader to pact with neighboring alliances. This will save you precious time to collect resources without losing troops.
12. Gather whatever is closest:
Unless you specifically need a certain resource right away, don't be picky about what you get. Just make sure to collect whatever is nearby your city in that moment. Believe me, others will be there in no time and you will be left with nothing to collect if you don't take what's yours! the higher the level of the tile (i.e. 6) the faster your troops will collect and the more loot you may gather.
13. Interact constantly with your alliance:
Participate in chat discussions and provide reinforcements however small. If the members remember your name, the members will respect you and help when you most need it. This also of course saves you from being kicked out when you seem "inactive" .
14. Upgrade critical buildings:
As fast and as much as you can in this order of importance: Academy, Gymos, Walls, Stronghold and Villas. Everything else go as you are able and whenever required, but remember to fill all of your spots unless there's a building pending. In my 'Advanced Strategy" Entry I will talk about the "Villa Approach" and "Hospital Approach".
15. If your city is scouted:
Don't freak out. Bring your troops home and keep them there for a while until the threat is gone, and given you have enough hospitals to save them all. This will be a good time to asses the state of your wall traps and defenses. If not at their maximum capacity do so immediately. There is also something called "Sleep Rally":
15.2. Sleep Rally:
If you can't take the attack because you are too small or you simply don't want your troops sent to hospital simply start a Rally against any other city (smaller city or your "alt") and set it for 8 hours. Add all of your troops with your hero and they will be protected for that amount of time. If you rally on a city across the wonder they will take a lot longer to march and come back, and that marching time will be added to your 8 hours. Make sure the city you are fake rallying on is very small, abandoned (but with alliance) or it is your alternate account. Remember also that you need to build a Hall of War in order to be able to start a rally.
16. Stay close to the Wonder:
Keep your city located as close to the wonder as you can and as you deem safe. The closer you are to the wonder the better access to higher amounts of resources you have. You also have a better sense of what the strongest players are like at the moment.

More Strategies:
1. Alliance and Daily Chances:
Do not use your Alliance or Daily Chances to refresh quests. Instead wait until the quests are completed and start new ones. Remember having VIP on allows to automatically finish quests (without waiting) at a certain level. Wait to use the Daily chances you are piling up from the store to use them until you have a higher VIP level. Legendary Quests appear 1 one in every 150 on average, but that may well give you 450K+ hero points and a sweet level 6 item. Some people are luckier though.
2. For really fast Research time:
Use your hero skill points in the following order:
Food Production or Troop Attack(5), Research (10), Stone Production (3), Ore Production (3), Silver Production (5), Food Production II (5), Wood Production II (5), Ore Production II (5), Silver Production II (5) and finally Research II (20). Follow same idea for Construction Speed.
3. Always send in slots:
The more troops you send to collect resource, the more resource you get... of course. But remember, sending them in slots at the same time will get you the resource picked much faster. For example, if you can send two slots, then you will get the same amount in half the time it would have taken by sending all your troops at once. If you send three slots, then three times as fast and so on. You get the idea.
4. If you keep receiving resource items (through gifts or awards) do not use them unless you have run out of that resource. If you keep piling them up they can never be stolen during attacks.
5. If you are targeted while gathering resources:
Send your troops home immediately. When someone has scouted you and decided to attack means they are confident their troops are more numerous and powerful than yours. Do not take risks, because even if you win you will have lost a considerable amount of soldiers and power. You might also want to start a Sleep Rally (Explained in 15 above).
6. Get your hero well dressed. Fast:
Mainly through completing quests you will eventually obtain enough items to start crafting at the forge. It is highly recommended to create and equip them in this order of importance: Accessories (2 or 3 of them), Weapon, Helmet, Armor and foot armor.
7. Always choose the middle chest:
Statistics show that the center is more likely to be not the best, but the most likely better choice. So when you get three chests in the casino, go for the center.
8. Don't use gems, wait to combine them:
Gems have to be a higher level to really be worth it. Instead keep piling up until you have four of a kind. Go combine them at the Forge and something good will be awaiting.
9. Equipment bags:
Should not be confused. They don't allow you to carry more items, they simply allow you to store more.
10. Aim for level 7 and 8 VIP:
In fact these are the only levels that are worth it (apart from the higher ones). The main thing that happens here is that you get to autocomplete your quests, and since by now you probably know quests are the nicest gifts from the game, you probably don't want to either miss them or get tired of going back and forth every time one is completed. Also a higher level VIP gives you more quests, which also gives you more chances to get your precious legendary quest.
11. Look for lakes:
Silver is the rarest of all resources. If there's lake nearby get all you can before everyone else takes them. Then go back to your immediate resources. If you want more silver you may also just build a lot of villas. See "Advanced Strategy" entry for the "Villa Approach"
Common Questions:
1) How do I get gold?
The only ways of getting gold are:
1. Purchasing it with real money from the Gold store
2. Obtaining it in a chest at the casino
3. Obtaining it in a secret gift
4. Getting it form your friends (for free) with your gold mine. And this is what I would like to explain:
2) How do I use the gold mine?
The gold mine can be a good strategy if you and at least some of your alliance members or simple random Facebook friends use it properly. What you have to do is exchange your facebook names and add each other as friends. Once you click on your gold mine those friends will appear automatically and you are allowed to send 10 gold to each a day (or 12 if you reach lvl 21). Meaning those friends will also do the same, and depending on the level of your gold mine and the amount of friends you have on facebook that are also on the game you can end up pocketing good amounts of gold for free.
3) Can I buy without gold?
Yes . Most items can also be bought with Alliance funds and loyalty at the alliance store. Ask your alliance leaders if you don't see the item of your interest listed.
3) My food number is flashing red, what does it mean?
It means your troops are consuming more than your farms are producing. I will suggest not to dismiss troops but to upgrade your farms or simply make sure there is always enough food gathered to not (ever) run out.
4) I cannot send reinforcements:
If the member of you alliance to whom the help is going is settled in a "protected kingdom" (the text bubble tells you that), means you are NOT in the same kingdom and can never be close to them, unless your stronghold is still below level 5 and you still have your free teleports. If you are already at a higher level you may as well just say good bye to that alliance and look for another one in your own kingdom.
5) How do I attack?
First you must perform a scout to make sure your enemy has considerably less army and traps than you so that there is not risk for you to lose the battle. Once you are sure you are able to afford a battle you may select the city location and choose attack. By then the enemy will have been notified and if he/she belongs to an alliance he/she may request extra reinforcements that are hosted at their embassy. I do not recommend an attack that is not a rally and or that has been studied carefully. The resources won are generally not worth it compared to the amount of troops and power lost. If you still want to attack make sure you hero skills are reset and spent on the left side of your hero tree.
6) What happens if my hero is captured?
It all depends on your stronghold and hero levels. Your opponent may capture you hero after a strong defeat and given that he has a prison. You may offer a bounty of silver to other players to rescue your hero. If your stronghold is above level 15 however, your hero may be executed, and so if the captor choses to do so you will have to perform a resurrection from your graveyard. Don't worry though, you hero will not lose its XP level or any items.
7) Where can I get a book of war?
The book of war is the item needed for upgrading your hall of war. It can be purchased at the store (or requested for the Alliance store) for 15 gold. It's relatively cheap price is due to the fact that it will not be a one time purchase. you will need more and more as you upgrade to higher levels. Books of war can also come as gifts from you alliance, secret gifts and be obtained in the casino.
8) How does the Alliance store work?
In the Items Store you may star an item that is not currently in you alliance store to show your leader you are interested. You leader may include this item in the catalog and in the store. Once it has been placed there you may purchase it with Alliance funds. This results useful when you do not have access to gold but have earned funds through completing quests and other tasks.
9) Why should I be nearby other alliance members?
There are advantages and disadvantages to this. Advantage is obviously that in case you need reinforcements or resource help there will be little waiting time for your or ally troops to arrive, and this always comes handy in emergencies. The dowside to this is that if the land is too crowded it becomes an easy target for higher level players. In addition, the resource gathering may be slightly more difficult and marching times for your troops to resources may increase.
10) How do I move nearby my alliance?
The only way to do this is by purchasing an Advanced Teleport, which can be found in the item store, your alliance catalog and alliance store. If you want to do is simply get out of your current location you may want to purchase instead a Random Teleport from the same store.
11) I cannot teleport or occupy!
If your teleport and occupy options appear in grey it means that you are either too far from that point or that this slot is within a protected kingdom outside your own.
12) How do I know if I won a battle?
Right after the battle you receive a report in the mail. Check it out and you will find statistics including whether you won, number of troops lost and other information.
13) What do I get from winning a battle?
First of all, you always lose something in a battle whether you win it or not, therefore it is very important to carry out attacks after carefully analyzing your scout report and making sure it is a realistic Endeavor. If you win you may steal all of the resources that were not protected in the store house and the city, sometimes obtain materials and get points during kill events.
14) What is the wonder?
The wonder is the area controlled by the ruling alliance. Do not attempt to control the wonder unless you are doing it in a very well organized manner with the rest of your alliance, and of course you are sure your alliance is very strong to hold on to it. The ruling alliances have gone through the same process and are probably very powerful and united. I am a founder of the strongest alliance in my kingdom. My job was to organize the wonder contest every time.
15) There are better resources away from my alliance:
If you decide to go away from your main alliance location for the sake of better resource gathering, make sure your hero stays in you city and that your wall defenses and traps are at its maximum. It is recommended to stay also away from any alliance agglomeration. You may also, again, want to do you Sleep Rally (explained above).
16) I never used my free Teleport and I don't see it anymore:
When you upgrade your stronghold to level 6 and above you are not considered a beginner, therefore your teleport is taken away and you need to purchase one from the store. This is one of the many reasons why your first stages should be used to grow and gather as much material as you can, and transport your city to a better location (or near your alliance) right before upgrading to level 6.
